Rejuran: The Healer of Skin, Not a Filler, a Revolution

Dr. Michael Kim, Chief Medical Officer at PharmaResearch, is one of the driving forces behind Rejuran, a groundbreaking regenerative treatment redefining how we perceive skin rejuvenation. A licensed physician in both South Korea and Singapore, Dr. Kim’s career spans over two decades in aesthetic medicine. His journey from clinical practice to corporate leadership reflects a deep belief in one principle: that true beauty begins with skin health. In this interview, he shares the science and philosophy behind Rejuran, explains what makes it distinct from other biostimulators, and offers insights into how regenerative medicine is shaping the next era of aesthetic treatments.
Can you start by introducing yourself to our readers?
My name is Dr. Michael Kim. I am the Chief Medical Officer of PharmaResearch in South Korea. I
hold medical licenses in both South Korea and Singapore. I practiced as an aesthetic physician in Singapore for many years before returning to Korea to join PharmaResearch. My passion for Rejuran was so strong that I decided to leave my clinic and dedicate myself fully to the company.
For those who are not familiar with it, what exactly is Rejuran?
Rejuran is a regenerative medicine product derived from polynucleotides; DNA fragments extracted from wild salmon in Korea. These fragments help rejuvenate and regenerate the skin from within, improving texture, elasticity, and overall vitality.
How does Rejuran differ from other skin boosters or biostimulators?
Many products today are categorized as biostimulators, but Rejuran truly stands apart. It’s a chain of DNA molecules sourced from an organic, natural material, wild salmon, rather than being chemically synthesized in a lab. Most biostimulators work by triggering inflammation to stimulate collagen production. Rejuran, on the other hand, reduces inflammation while promoting regeneration. It heals rather than inflames. This is why complications like granulomas or nodules, which may occur with other products, are not a concern with Rejuran.
What results can patients expect after treatment?
The effects are multi-dimensional: improved hydration, smoother texture, reduction of fine lines, and a healthy glow. Over time, it strengthens the skin barrier, enhances elasticity, and makes the skin more resistant to environmental stress and UV damage. We like to say Rejuran isn’t a filler, it’s a healer.
Is the safety of Rejuran proven clinically?
Over the past ten years, millions of syringe have been used with no cases of vascular occlusion or blindness, complications sometimes seen with fillers or certain biostimulators. That level of safety is a major achievement
in aesthetics.
Why is salmon DNA so compatible with human skin?
The structure of polynucleotides from salmon closely resembles that of human DNA. Combined with our proprietary DOT purification technology, we ensure only the purest polynucleotides remain free from other proteins or contaminants. This purity guarantees both safety and effectiveness for the skin.

Are there any skin types or conditions that should avoid Rejuran?
In fact, no. Rejuran is suitable for nearly everyone, from younger patients seeking prevention to mature individuals looking to restore vitality. It can be used on all skin types, including darker tones, and even benefits those with acne-prone or inflamed skin due to its properties. I often call it prejuvenation, treating early to prevent aging rather than waiting to correct it.
Is it applied through injections only, or can it be used with other methods like microneedling?
The version of Rejuran available now is injectable; a gel-type formula designed to be injected into the skin. There are smaller-molecule versions, such as PDRN, that can be applied topically or used with microneedling, but the main Rejuran PN is meant for injection.
Can Rejuran be combined with other procedures?
Yes. It works beautifully with lasers and energy-based devices because it remains stable under heat. We don’t recommend mixing it directly with cross-linked hyaluronic acid, but it can complement treatments like botulinum toxin, non–cross-linked HA, or even fillers done at different depths. Rejuran targets the intradermal layer, so it harmonizes with most existing protocols.

What trends do you see in the aesthetic industry today, and how does Rejuran fit in?
Globally, patients are moving away from exaggerated, artificial results. They want natural, healthy, radiant skin not just volume. Rejuran embodies that shift. It’s part of the regenerative medicine movement that focuses on restoring function, not masking flaws. This is the future of aesthetics.
Are there future developments or innovations we can expect from PharmaResearch?
Yes. Currently, three types of Rejuran are available, and we’re introducing a fourth that combines non–cross-linked HA with lidocaine for added hydration and comfort. We are also expanding research in regenerative science on multiple fronts.
A clinical study has reported promising results on trauma scars, such as those from war injuries, by supporting tissue recovery.
You mentioned you’ve lived and worked in different parts of the world, what inspires you most about your work today?
I’m inspired by the global shift toward safer, smarter, and more sustainable aesthetic solutions. Rejuran represents exactly that, a science-based, biologically harmonious approach that helps the skin heal itself. Seeing doctors and patients worldwide embrace this philosophy motivates me every day.
